TMD and Migraine Treatments
Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD) affect your jaw, specifically the hinge that connects your jaw to your skull. While we don’t know exactly what causes these problems, we do know that the symptoms can be extremely painful and long-lasting.
Some symptoms might include:
- Migraine headaches
- Tenderness, pain, and swelling of the jaw
- Trouble chewing
- A stuck jaw
Using FDA-approved botulinum treatments, we can help reduce many of the symptoms of TMD. These treatments can also help decrease the frequency and severity of migraines not caused by TMD. Left untreated, TMD will usually only get worse and can even cause broken teeth and severe, chronic pain that can make everything from speaking to eating painful and difficult.
Particularly beneficial to children, teens, and adults whose teeth are prone to decay, dental sealants offer a level of extra protection for at-risk teeth. The dentist simply paints on a coating of the sealant material, and your teeth have an extra level of protection!
Dental sealants are perfect for:
- Kids who have a hard time brushing their molars
- Anyone with a history of tooth decay
- Teens with braces or other orthodontic work that makes brushing more difficult
By protecting teeth with dental sealants, you will be at a much lower risk for all of the problems that come with cavities, including tooth pain, abscesses, and more serious problems which have been linked to plaque and decay like heart disease and diabetes.
If you are nervous about dental procedures, we offer sedation dentistry services that will help you relax while your teeth are being examined. This is particularly helpful to patients who have dental anxiety or those who need to have several long procedures. If you feel this would make your treatment easier, simply discuss it with the dentist. There are several options that he will discuss with you, including the use of a special gas (nitrous oxide) or a prescribed sedative that is taken before the appointment.
Contact us today to learn more about these dental treatments or to schedule an appointment. Our practice is based on the principle of providing the best possible care to each and every one of our patients. When you come to The Dental Group of East Brunswick, you will be treated with respect and care, no matter the condition of your teeth. We are here to help.
